Sports Teams for Student Athletes from 1st grade to 12th grade.

We are the saints

Louisville Homeschool Athletics (LKY Saints) exists to provide Christian competitive athletic opportunities for homeschool families that live in the Greater Louisville area. We are all about teaching student-athletes how to honor Christ and compete in their sport. Our vision is to build sports programs and not simply individual teams. This allows the homeschool athlete to grow up in a program under the same Christian organization for all of the years they participate in each sport. As an athletic organization not tied to a specific academic institution, participating with LKY allows homeschool families to retain total control over the educational curriculum and co-ops that best serve their family, while continuing to have consistent athletic opportunities for their children throughout the years.

LKY Saints Eligibility

The Heart of Eligibility

Since our inception in March 2021, LKY has grown in both size (number of families & athletes) and stature (number of programs offered). We praise God for His work in our organization and desire to honor Jesus Christ in every aspect of competitive homeschool sports—including eligibility. Eligibility is the most debated–and sometimes the most confusing–subject before us. At a time when homeschooling is on the rise (in this post-COVID era), we are frequently asked about what even defines homeschooling and what makes an athlete eligible to compete with LKY.

We believe competing with integrity is essential in sports. It honors the Lord, and it protects the reputation of our organization and homeschool sports. Even though the goal of a competition is to win, how the game is played with the athletes involved is more important than the outcome. Since LKY competes against public and private schools as well as homeschool organizations, we have worked to ensure we uphold guidelines and standards set by every organization that oversees any sport we offer.

In the KHSAA world, teams are “grade-based,” and in the homeschool world, teams are “age-based”.

Additionally, there are many differences between KHSAA and homeschool regulations regarding tournament eligibility, reclassifying, transfers, academics, definition of homeschool athlete, and more.

As we navigate these issues, we want to seek to do so with high integrity in both worlds so we can continue to compete in both arenas.

To this end, the LKY Executive Board has prayerfully reviewed eligibility language across all LKY sports, including eligibility language from all governing organizations and tournaments for each sport. We have compiled these eligibility requirements into a one page document for your convenience; use the button below to review this document.

If you have any questions about eligibility, please feel free to reach out to us through the contact form below.

Eligibility Guidelines

This eligibility guidelines document is specifically for athletes competing at the high school level (unless eligibility requirement is otherwise indicated for lower grades). For questions on eligibility for elementary or middle school athletes, use our contact form below. In general, as long as the elementary or middle school athlete is 51% homeschooled, lives within 100 miles of our practice facility, and their parents submit an LOI, they are able to participate.

LKY Saints

Executive Board

Eric Carlson

Board President

Eric Carlson serves as the President of the Executive Board for LKY Saints and has been a part of the organization from its early stages. He and his wife Sierra have five children, and LKY Saints has given them an avenue to pursue competitive sports in light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ within a community of like-minded families and athletes. While Eric and his family love sports, they view training, practicing, and competition as gifts intended to bring glory to God. Eric has served as an LKY Boys’ Basketball and LKY Boys’ Baseball coach.

Steve Fenrick

Board Vice President

Steve Fenrick helped found Louisville Homeschool Athletics in 2021, and currently serves as the Vice President for the Executive Board; he also serves as the Varsity Baseball Head Coach and the Baseball Program Director. He and his wife Lara have four sons. The Lord used the Fenrick family’s desire to both homeschool and play competitive baseball as a launchpad for the creation of LKY Saints, and their desire is to see the organization remain a ministry-first community that strives for excellence on and off the field.

Kristi McCartney

Board Secretary

Kristi McCartney serves as the Secretary of the Executive Board, as well as working as the Girls’ Basketball Program Director and Girls’ Varsity Basketball coach. She and her husband (and best friend!) Will had the privilege of helping found Louisville Homeschool Athletics in 2021, and it has been their joy to see the Lord make their dream a reality. One of the top reasons student athletes return to traditional schools is to compete at a high level, and Kristi’s vision is to change that narrative by offering Christ-centered, competitive, interscholastic athletics for homeschool families. Her highest goal is that families, athletes, and coaches would grow together in showing and sharing the glory of the gospel of Jesus Christ through their respective sports.

Kristi, Will, and their children–Marshall, Savannah, Trenton, and Aaleigha–love the gospel, their church, the outdoors, Mexican food, homemade milkshakes, and having people into their home.

Dan Sheets

Board Treasurer

Dan Sheets serves as the treasurer of Louisville Homeschool Athletics, and has been involved in sports for most of his life. He ran cross country and track and played basketball through high school; he and his wife, Sarah, have been homeschooling for over twenty years and been involved in homeschool athletics equally as long. While strict rules historically made homeschooling and athletics a difficult combination, Dan, Sarah, and their six children found a community in Heart for Christ, a Louisville-based homeschool athletic association. After one of their sons married, the family dubbed themselves “Team Sheets,” and in 2021, Team Sheets and pieces of HFC became LKY Saints. Team Sheets is blessed to be part of a community teaching the core values of sports under the larger emphasis of glorifying Jesus Christ. Dan still enjoys staying active by cycling fifteen to twenty miles a day, skiing, and occasionally playing golf (until his children start beating him!).

Jennifer Clark

Board Member

Jennifer Clark serves on the Executive Board of Louisville Homeschool Athletics, in addition to serving as the head coach for the LKY Saints Girls’ and Boys’ Varsity Volleyball teams. Jennifer embraced the LKY Saints’ vision even before they were incorporated, and she helped build their volleyball program. She is passionate about building a Christian community of families and athletes where homeschoolers can grow from elementary school to high school with the same community of athletes, even as they participate in various sports. She and her husband Brian have six children–Grace, Ella, Piper, Ava, Roman, and Kolby–and count Grace’s husband, Chase, as their seventh. She loves spending time with her family and friends playing games, canoeing, hiking, or sitting around a campfire; volleyball is her favorite sport, followed by NFL football and Cubs baseball.

Sierra Carlson

Executive Administrator

Sierra Carlson is LKY’s Executive Administrator and has served as Head Coach for Girls’ 5/6 Grade Basketball as well as Assistant Coach for Girls’ Varsity Basketball.  The core of her identity, however, is not her work as an LKY Saint, but as a saint by virtue of Christ’s redeeming and saving work on the cross.  Her deepest desire is that the girls she coaches would come to know and love God as they see His kindness toward them in Jesus Christ.  She also values athletes’ hard work to grow in skill and maturity as a team player.  Sierra loves playing basketball and doing anything active; she and her husband Eric have five precious children.

Ella Clark

Bookkeeper

Ella Clark serves as the LKY Bookkeeper, but she started as a volleyball player with LKY Volleyball’s first graduating class in 2021. Volleyball played a tremendous role in her growth throughout her life, and she loves serving at LKY and supporting other athletes’ development through a Christ-centered sports community! Ella loves playing volleyball and spending time with her family, and she is working on a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Accounting and Business through Spalding University.
